Question 1

Do you offer emergency drainage call-outs in Exeter?

Accepted Answer

Yes — we cover drainage emergencies including sewage backup, overflowing manholes and flooded drainage across Exeter and the surrounding areas listed on our coverage page. Emergency attendance is charged at a higher rate than planned work; the estimator shows that uplift.

Question 2

Are you NADC members?

Accepted Answer

Yes. NADC membership — the National Association of Drainage Contractors — means we operate within the association's standards for drainage work. You can verify membership on the NADC website at nadc.co.uk. NADC is a trade association, not a statutory register; there is no statutory licensing requirement for drainage contractors in England.

Question 3

How much does drain unblocking cost in Exeter?

Accepted Answer

Standard domestic drain unblocking is based on a callout fee plus an hourly rate — use the estimator for an indicative figure. More complex work such as CCTV surveys or drain relining is quoted on a per-job basis. Emergency callouts carry an out-of-hours uplift shown in the estimator.

Question 4

How do I know if a blocked drain is my responsibility or South West Water's?

Accepted Answer

Drains serving only your property up to the boundary are your responsibility. Shared drains serving two or more properties are generally adopted by South West Water and are their responsibility to repair and clear. We check ownership before quoting any major drainage work — if it is an adopted sewer, South West Water will attend for free.

Question 5

Do I need a drain survey before buying a property in Devon?

Accepted Answer

It is strongly recommended for any property with older drainage — particularly pre-1970 properties where clay and pitch-fibre drains are common. A CCTV survey before exchange is much cheaper than discovering a collapsed drain after you complete. We provide written reports suitable for review by mortgage lenders and insurers.
