Technical questions — Consumer Unit Replacement
Do I need Building Regulations approval for a consumer unit replacement?
Yes. Consumer unit replacement is notifiable work under Part P of the Building Regulations. As an NICEIC registered contractor, we self-certify the work and notify the local authority directly — you receive a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate without any separate building control visit.
How long does the job take?
A straightforward consumer unit replacement in a standard three-bedroom house typically takes four to six hours. Properties with a large number of circuits, unusual wiring or any remedial work needed on individual circuits will take longer. We confirm the expected duration when we quote.
