Flashing Repair and Replacement in Sheffield
Flashing is the most common point of water ingress on a UK pitched roof. Lead flashing around chimney stacks, step flashing along wall abutments, and soakers under tiles are all susceptible to mortar failure, lead fatigue and movement cracking. We repair or replace flashing using correct lead grades and detailing, or proprietary alternatives where appropriate.

Technical questions — Flashing Repair and Replacement
How long does lead flashing last?
Correctly installed and dressed lead flashing has a typical service life of 50 to 70 years. Mortar pointing over lead — which was common practice on older roofs — fails significantly sooner, often within 10 to 20 years, and is not a recommended detail. Where we find mortar over lead, we explain the correct alternative and agree it with you before re-pointing.
Can flashing be repaired rather than replaced?
Minor splits or localised fatigue in lead can often be repaired with new lead patches and correct dressing. If the lead is generally fatigued, corroded or incorrectly installed, replacement is the better long-term answer. We give an honest assessment and agree the scope with you before any work begins.
