How long does lead flashing last?
Correctly installed and dressed lead flashing has a typical service life of 50 to 70 years. Mortar pointing over lead — which was common practice on older roofs — fails significantly sooner, often within 10 to 20 years, and is not a recommended detail. Can flashing be repaired rather than replaced?
Minor splits or localised fatigue in lead can often be repaired with new lead patches and correct dressing.
