Key Cutting & Spare Keys in Bristol

We cut spare keys for standard door locks, including Yale-type night latches, euro cylinders and five-lever mortice locks. Where a key has broken off inside a lock, we extract the broken piece without damage to the lock in most cases. Keys for restricted or patented keyways cannot be cut without authorisation from the key holder.

Scope of key cutting & spare keys

Our approach and methodology

  1. Check the key type and confirm whether the keyway is cuttable
  2. Cut the required number of keys
  3. Test each cut key in the lock before completing the job
  4. Return the original key and advise if a restricted keyway prevents duplication

Technical questions — Key Cutting & Spare Keys

Can you cut a key without the original?

For most standard locks, no — we work from the existing key. Cutting to code (from the lock's own code) is possible for some lock types but requires the code number, which is usually only available from the manufacturer. If you have no key at all, lock replacement may be the more practical option.

What if my key has snapped inside the lock?

Broken key extraction is a standard locksmith skill. In most cases we can remove the broken piece without drilling the lock, leaving the lock itself intact and usable. We assess the situation first and advise if the lock will need replacing rather than just clearing.
